View Full Version : What Firewall are you using… Paid version or free version?

There are lots of topics here talking bout what is the best firewall or favorite firewall, but haven’t heard yet what really are they are actually using. I mean, maybe those using only free versions of firewalls will be possibly hesitant (or shy :-\ ) to participate on that poll or topics because most of the time only “popular firewalls” are always on the list and talk about. Aside from that, also, even paid versions has its own flaws, blemishes, weaknesses, inadequacies and problems discovered as we used them day by day. :P
Maybe my guess is right… but I could not say for sure if I am correct. ::)
What really are you actually using, free or paid versions of firewall? ;D

Cisco router for inbound
Tiny Personal Firewall 2005 Pro for the rest.
Hope it will stay as good as it is, i don't have good experiences
with products that get a new Owner.
(CA has taken over Tinysoft)
But perhaps in this case it doesn't go the same way as with:
Giant Anti Spyware -> MS
Norton Anti Virus -> Symantec
Ghost -> Symantec ..this one needs .net and Live update now ;D>:(:'(
etc.

I used ZA Pro for years but didn't like the 6.x release so I changed .. haha ..

Ohh my, my...:o only very very few of us are using the Windows XP firewall... ::) :o .. maybe we're just very confident that we have a "guardian angel" to protect us... and also not paranoid enough to use any third-party firewall. ;)
But what really struck me was those 5.13% who don't use a firewall at all. I am just wondering that maybe they are the super expert in a net world. ::) :o :D ???
Maybe... I can consider them a Rambo in the pc world...;D :o ...how did they do it? ??? and what's their setting? ??? :lurking:

Loved it since version 5.1 :). I thought 6.5 was great but I'm skeptical of what CA is going to do, so I just watch its development for now.
Right now, I use a hardware firewall; it's definitely paid for.

Running Kerio 2.15 for two days.
Now I know why so much people love this former version :o ...
I wish Kerio 4 can get the same Rules window, and rule edition prompt mode on-the-fly, one day: Current Kerio 4.2 with theses Kerio 2's rules features would be the best firewall ever in my opinion !!! :o (and dear God, why did they remove it in V. 4 :ouch: - Rules are ways more obvious to edit in V. 2).

Kerio 2.1.5. Couldn't ask for better, even if it did cost. Using separate HIPS, System Safety Monitor. IMO, this combination is superior to the security suites that perform both functions.

If I ever decide to buy a firewall, most probably it will be ZoneAlarm Pro + Router of course.
Right now, I'm using ZoneAlarm Free. My I.Q. is too low for rule-based firewalls. :'(

Updating mine...from business grade RV082 router..to..
...Endian...it's a linux based security appliance, running NAT, deep SPI, Snort IDS, ClamAV, several anti-spam as an application level transparenty proxy. Wonderfully powerful.
Free download, open source, just take any mid to upper range P3 from the junkpile.
