Thanks friend.I think suites is a easy all in one solution, the thing that worrys about them is are they weak in certain areas.Example a strong AntiVirus but weak firewall or vice versa.look at comodo for example strong hips and firewall but AntiVirus is not really top tier IMO.Some suite are more evenly made, strong Antivirus and Firewall,But all in all I believe in layered. My way of thinking if some piece of malware By passes 1 layer perhaps the second layer will kill it off.On the other hand if a suite is by passed or disabled some how and there is no other layer,Game over.

On my Win7, 32 bit laptop (core 2 duo) I had Emsi, MBAM Pro and AdMuncher running at the same time. The system felt light and responsive. I think the web shield or IP blocker or whatever it is from Emsi was eventually disabled bc it became annoying.

I had the same experience with EAM 6 until I found that one of my add-ons FF was the culprit. In my case, it was a memory add-ons, like Memory Fox.
If you have FF brower, you should check your add-ons and plug ins.

To those that suggested imaging software. After doing a little research it seems to be a backup similar to system restore. Why is regular system restore not good enough? Thanks

Imaging a system, you are backing up/restoring a copy of your hard disk/partition previously stored else where (external hard drive for example). With System Restore, you are restoring a copy of the registry only, your documents and personal data are not affected.
System Restore is not always reliable, it can break down silently and leave you unprotected when you most need it. Imaging software when it works is really the ultimate recovery even if your hard drive would suddenly die.

* Every sandbox has Read-Only access to C:\Windows
* Separate sandbox for testing applications.
* Sandboxed explorer.exe with a shortcut linking to my "Downloads" partition, to open new files.

There might have been a conflict somewhere between 3 new programs Online Armor, EAM and Ad Muncher, there were problems in browsing. Removed Ad Muncher and added back Ad Block Plus to Chrome. Turned off the Guards in EAM and will add them back one at a time. Online Armor is doing really well, I think it's been improved since I tried it last about half a year ago.

There is an known issue with EAM and Ad Muncher. Look at the quote from Shadek below and also on Emsisoft forums: http://support.emsisoft.com/topic/6617-ad-muncher-issue/
-{ Quote: "The problem with EAM is that it isn't compatible with AdMuncher and Chrome. You have to exclude Chrome from protection in EAM in order for AdMuncher to filter ads/tracking cookies at all... that's simply not acceptable. I've reported this during beta of EAM 6... but it hasn't been fixed yet and I dare to say it's been ignored.
That's why I recently bought OA++ which works PERFECTLY... only to find a few hours later that it will soon become abandonware... and I don't want to be converted to Emsisoft Internet Suite... I already have that, remember? That's why I bought OA++ in the first place." }-

are there any updating issues for programs forced to always run in sandboxie? I'm thinking of running FF and Iron to always open in SBIE but only if they will be able to go ahead and update.
On the other hand, I watched some GeSWall usage videos and some of the videos claim that trusted programs in GeSWall can update normally. Is that accurate?

I've always used an AV in the past but i've never had a single virus alert, so in the back of my mind an AV was always something that was just taking up resources, so I wanted to go with a HIPS-only setup for a change, and so far i'm loving it.

Hungry Man
December 20th, 2011, 12:41 PM
I use Always On for DEP
Opt Out for SEHOP
Opt In for ASLR
Just so it's clear
Opt-Out: A program has to opt out or be forced to use the technique
Opt-In: A program has to say it wants to use that technique
So Opt-Out is the more secure version.

Stay with your current Av or upgrade to the paid. If you do upgrade install the Av first then your other security software to avoid incompatibility warnings. McAfee's detection rates aren't where they should be.

After a little tweaking, Online Armor and Emsisoft Anti-Malware are working smoothly with my other programs, and very little slowdown. My only concern now is that I might have more than I need installed, but that seems to be a hobby I enjoy, always looking for just the right balance.
I'm really impressed with how much better Online Armor is running since I last tried it. Of course that might be because of an improvement with another program that was interfering with OA, who knows. So I'm keeping OA, and I might replace EAM with something lighter though probably less effective.

that combo ran very nice for me...I did not like the http filter or whatever Emsi uses unless it has made exclusions easier to manage on the fly. But Emsi and MBAM run smoothly together and I would have a hard time finding a combo with a higher level of detection.
I'm thinking of running Emsi along side Nod32 av with the Nod HIPS disabled and just let Mamutu do the behavior work. I guess I would need to disable on access scanning of Emsi?

kjdemuth
December 22nd, 2011, 04:10 PM
There is but its buggy at best. The last time I tried to run a flash program as an add on it crashed dragon multiple times. I know that its one of their increasing security limiting attack vectors by not having flash built in. I don't think that is necessary to remove it entirely. Maybe make it an option to add it, if needed. There are enough browsers out there to choose from, I think a lot of folks will find that not having flash built in is inconvenient.
Emetic
December 22nd, 2011, 05:03 PM
I've been using Dragon for a month or two now as a second browser. It is really quick to start and shutdown and I have had no problems watching youtube stuff in it (which uses flash as you know).
I have it setup so it uses the Comodo DNS whereas usually I use Norton.
So that's a quick way to check out a page that isn't working in Opera (my main browser) to see if it is a dns issue. Very often if it won't work in Opera, it will work in Comodo. I use firefox occasionally too.
Lightweight and efficient. And very compatible. Great second browser with the DNS alternative setup. :thumb:

Not for nothing, but I picked up something pretty serious on my system and out of ALL the programs I use, rescue disks, etc...(this includes Kaspersky, Norton, MS, MBAB, Spybot, Avast, AVG, Emisoft, all used to try and detect it and failed and even often paralyzed most of these apps from working at all) and Dr. Web was the only one that picked it up and told me for sure I was infected. Somehow this bug was even able to disable Dr. Web from creating a log file and going any further other than telling me I was infected in rescue mode, so I couldn't tell what I had or remove it, but it was the ONLY one out of the bunch that confirmed that I was in fact diseased.
Don't know if that means anything to anyone, but something to think about.

Did play a little with the settings of WSA, for instance on my wife's laptop I have heuristics:
LOCAL: apply advanced AFTER age: Medium (advanced) - High (age) - Medium (popularity)
USB: warn for all NOT TRUSTED - HIGH (advanced) - LOW (age) - HIGH (popularity)
*** makes it a sort of advanced whitelist ***

Since the CIS new version won't install on my win srv 2008 r2, I'm gonna go back to PFW, which has server support for free. @Greg, I know you are watching, keep doing the great thing.:) So it's EAM + PFW + Sandboxie here on my desktop. And on my laptop, I only have Sandboxie, gotta save more resource for work.;D

Do you use the Premium KeyScrambler on a chromium based browser? If so, how well is it working so far?

Been just 2 days since installation . there is no GUI like other av's . but there has been no slowdown whatsoever whatever i have done . its sitting there quietly doing its work and has enough settings options to satisfy average and advanced users

Why run defensewall with comodo D+? Isn't it a bit overkill?

Let's see - I use Firefox w/the "https-everywhere" add-on,
AVG free version
SpyBot Search&Destroy
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (freeware version)
SpywareBlaster and for chuckles I still run "SecurityScanner" (the old SpyCop program) every now and then.
Haven't felt a need for anything else.

I just re-installed that myself, Pete.
I like the niche market aspect of it.

Online Armor Premium + Eset NOD32 Antivirus. I'm running Opera in RunSafer, so... I'm safer :). I installed MBAM pro, but I don't want to waste my memory (less than 1 GB).

I am shocked at how light my setup is proving. My 6 year old pc is flying! I browse with Google Chrome.

Good for you. The only thing that keeps my laptop flying is sandboxie.:'(

Re-added Sandboxie. I'm no longer running Chrome sandboxed, but want Sandboxie there should I want to run anything suspect. NAV 2012 and MBAM PRO are proving to be a perfect combo for me - light, strong and effective.

I have tried Zemana and SpyShelter. Both are very good HIPS programs and anti-keyloggers but for now, I want less noise or no noise at all.
