FireWalls: and behind door number one...

I'd bought Sygate Pro a while back (and then after the fact, read about Bloatware International Symantec, regarding Sygate). Well...

a) I'm assuming my current 5.5 Sygate PRO won't suddenly break, and cease working, correct - just a matter of no updates/further development - is that about the size of it?

b) I now see that Agnitum and ZoneLabs both have offers to Sygate users about sideways upgrade deals to their respective products - so let me pose this question:

I rather liked Sygates "style, or way of going about things" as far as my not having to mess around much with rules/pop up questions on this or that, and the like, so... if I later want to or have to switch firewalls again - which route to take - OutPost Pro or ZA Pro?

I do of course want a > solid, reliable < f'wall, but I don't want to mess around overly much with rules. pop up questions about everything under the sun and if an app wants rights, and all that.

So, if you have exp. with two or three of above named f'walls in particular, I'd appreciate your thoughts on the matter.

Sygate should be fine for quite some time, especially if it's working well now and you don't change much on your system.

If you want to go with ZAP or Outpost, then ZAP might be easier for you since you don't want to mess with rules much. ZAP will be a simple yes/no to popups, whereas Outpost might bother you a little more. Outpost does have predefined rules for most common apps, but for those that it doesn't, you may get multiple popups and have to specify ports, remote addresses, and so on. ZAP is a little simpler in that respect. Otherwise, they are both good firewalls.

I've been using Sygate Pro 5.5 for almost a year and backed up the last trojan and sig updates released.

I'm going to keep using it, especially considering that I'm on dialup and I'm NOT going to upgrade to Vista.

I've been cursing Symantec regularly every day now... >:(
