Zone Alarm Free blocking trusted apps

I use NOD32 as my antivirus and Zone Alarm Free as my firewall. I have NOD32Krn.exe (the program that gets updates) in the trusted zone. I also have all 3 of my DNS servers IP addresses in the trusted zone.

Last night, NOD32krn.exe was blocked from accepting a connection from the local zone 3 times (once from each DNS server). Is this normal even though I have NOD32 and the DNS servers in the trusted zone?

Do I need to give NOD32 server access in addition to internet access?

Hi ejr,

I have more less the same combo (ZA Pro), providing you have your DNS servers already placed in "trusted" zone, all you need to do is to enable nod32krn.exe access trusted and internet in Program Control tab, also give it "trusted" in Trusted Level column ... but I am not sure if this option is available in the free version.

In the free version when you place something in the trusted zone, you have 4 columns. Under ACCESS. you can put a check mark in both trusted and internet. Under SERVER, you can put a checkmark in trusted and internet. Is it the same 4 options in ZA Pro?

If so, what columns do I need to have checked for MOD32krn.exe?

Under access, allow trusted and internet and under server both columns you can leave either "ask" or "block". I have "block" and don't have any problems.

That's the way I have it set up. Hmmm....

I guess as long as I am getting my updates, I shouldn't worry about it. And I am. I just happened to check my NOD logs to see that access was blocked.

I find that having software that creates these useful logs (like a firewall and NOD32) can make you paranoid. I was much more relaxed about computer secutity when I didn't see all this. Which just goes to show you, sometimes ignorance IS bliss :)
