So will let you know what they say . anyways they have a forum that looks maybe worth wondering into http://forums.ca.com ( I just signed up so when they email me how to get there and i find a bow tie i will let you know what its like . ( might have crackers and dip lol ) :)

I don't see a problem with using the promo version7. I answered the questions and didn't lie about anything and they allowed me to download the AV. If I'm running a home business and have only 2 computers, mine and my wife's, it seems to me that I'm being legal.

It's still working beautifully, except for the automatic update. I've emailed them, they've replied promptly, but nothing works. I don't know if I got a bad download or what. Everything else is slick and nice. So, I'll continue updating manually every other day and not worry about it. I like this version.

Notice to all on NTFS installing This Win2003 edition : Do NOT click the option in configuration concerning NTFS. There is a strong possibility it can corrupt the partition.
Other than that, great piece of kit :) Like KAV better though 8)

I e-mailed them too and after the last e-mail I sent (June 26), I did not receive a reply !!
Hi Neil,
Actually this version works on Win98se (I installed it on my machine to test
if it will work, and it did), Win 2k and WinXP .
That is why I asked if it is legal - or at least ethical - to use it on a pc
running win98se?
Regards,
Mina

Hi Mina
The link you included below is actually for a free download, it will only
work on Windows 2003 servers...not Win 98
The Inoculate personal edition that you mentioned has become our new home

just got thier reply:
Hi Mina
Having read through the info we posted it doesn't seem like there would be a problem with you using this. Bear in mind that there is no mention of support for this, Commercial customers who purchase the product get free support as part of their package. The website I listed below for my-etrust.com at least has technical support incorporated into the cost.

I think the promotional page is self explanatary .Its there for those who may wish to have it . In my last communication with them . they replied regarding whether its ethical or not , saying , basically , if you would rather download the trial version ( 30 days) instead , you are most welcome. If I felt uncomfortable with having the free promo version.
In my mind in a world where things that are free are not always what they appear to be , I have to think carefully more on Is there some thing else here that in my eagerness to download a life time of free updates , that Im missing . For me thats the question rather than the other . ie Are we tracked or just being used as honeypots lol

I think, and I'm wrong as often as I'm right these days, that the promo is legitimate. I guess I look at it as free advertising. ETrust is a good av and, if you use it and it works, you recommend it to friends. If 10K people downloaded the free promo and Computer Associates recognizes 500 new sales as a result, they've made out.

Thanks to all for the info here and in the other post.
I noticed something interesting at their d-l site, the Trial version is 5 Mb larger.
Makes you wonder what the promo ver leaves out.

Trial version contains Administration tools. Promo is a client version.
