Does anyone know if you purchase this download if you will get a free upgrade to the 2006 version when it comes out?

To quote from Kaspersky's website

{QUOTE->
How to update your Kaspersky Lab software

Upgrading personal products from version 5.0 to version 6.0, within the subscription period is FREE, specifically:

* Personal 5.0 or Personal Pro 5.0 can be upgraded for FREE to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2006,
* Anti-Hacker can be upgraded for FREE only if the user has Personal 5.0 of Personal Pro 5.0. These users can upgrade to Kaspersky Internet Security 2006.
* Personal Security Suite 1.1 can be upgraded to Kaspersky Internet Security 2006 for FREE.

Current users of Personal 5.0, Personal Pro 5.0, Anti-Hacker 1.8, or Personal Security Suite 1.1, whose licenses have expired, can upgrade to Kaspersky Internet Security 2006. In this case, the cost will be equal to 70% of the cost of Kaspersky Internet Security 2006. Personal and Personal Pro users can also chose to upgrade to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2006, also at 70% of cost.

So I assume then you get the upgrade regardless of which vendor you purchase the software from.

Anyone know if its always this price at newegg or should i jump on this while I have the chance?

Defenestration

I would imagine it's always around this sort of price. BTW, you can also get the Kaspersky Personal Security Suite for $35.91, also from NewEgg, which would allow you to upgrade to KIS (with it's much improved firewall component, Anti-Hacker), Anti-Spy and Anti-Spam.

While I'm not that interested in the last two myself, I consider the new Anti-Hacker to be one of the best on the market now. It passes ALL known leaktests.

I have just been playing with KIS2006 for the first time tonight and I tried all the leaktests, but I'm sure it was the proactive defense component that stopped everything, not anti-hacker.

You are correct that the PD module provides protection from a lot of the leaktests, although not all.

My original comment was based on the fact that the AH module has been greatly improved since the current release version (1.8, I believe), and now stops more than the previous version. It is also very configurable. If you think anything is missing from it, just mention it on the Kaspersky beta forum since the developer's seem extremely keen on listening to the users, and acting on those comments.

Stumbled across this thread looking for something else so thanks for the link, never noticed before that newegg sold KAV. :)

One question...would anyone know if I purchased this would the key be good for a year from the purchase date or a year from installing KAV and using the key for the first time?

Only reason I ask is because I still have about 3 months left on my GDATA AVK license but will be switching, and I will be doing some other shopping at newegg in the next week or two. I wouldn't mind getting this while I was already there to use later unless the key starts right from the purchase date, otherwise I'll just wait. Would anyone have any info on this?

Thanks

The licence would run from the date of purchase, not from when it is first used.

NewEgg, as usual, rocks :) I actually didn't notice KAV being sold there before either.. great deal, especially with the upgrade to 2006. I was actually very impressed with KIS2006, great behavior blocking package with AV, FW, and anti-spam built in. Still not as fast as NOD32, but definitely very light on resources (not the same thing). It's got a few quirks to be worked out yet, but I've pretty much decided that it's going on my secondary system when it's done.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I thought that may be the case. I'll probably end up picking it up anyway and making the switch a little early.:)

And your right Notok, newegg does rock. Always enjoy giving them my money.:P

It's 44.99 for the boxed version which they send to you, and 24.99 for the downloadable version (which is identical, just without a box and printed manual).

Weird, all day yesterday could get to Newegg no matter how hard I tried. Tried it at work during lunchtime, came right up. Came home tonight, tried it and it came right up.

I blame my service provider for this one.

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

Hi. I'm hoping that maybe a KAV expert can explain this to me.

Last night I decided to purchase KAV 5 from Newegg. It is installed and running.

There is only one problem. When I open KAV 5 and click on the Support tab, under License Info it shows that my license will expire on 2/12/2007. That's good.

When I click on the License Keys link, the Managing License Keys window opens, and under License Key Information it shows I have a Trial License that will expire on 2/12/2006. That's not good.

Why does the Managing License Keys window show a Trial License that will expire in 20 days, while the main KAV 5 GUI shows that the license will expire next year? Which one is the correct one?

Hi Mannaggia,

I would suggest contacting Kaspersky staff at either of the following e-mail addresses explaining your problem:

support@kaspersky.com
support@kaspersky.co.uk

They should be able to sort it out. Once you get a reply, it would be informative for everyone else at Wilder's if you could post the reply/answer.

Got an e-mail reply from Kaspersky today. Looks like everything is ok. I'll find out for sure in 19 days. :)

Hello,

The information that is shown in the License info window is the correct one. After the trial period will end, the real key will take its place automatically. Let me know if you have any other questions.

My kav licence expires in 11 days. It's actually cheaper for me to buy kav through newegg at $24.99...than to renew through kaspersky at the 30% renewal discount. ::)

Take a look and see if I'm wrong. Maybe I miscalculated the numbers.

Download kav 5 from kaspersky... Cost $39.95 - 30% discount = $11.99
-$11.99
__________
$27.96 ::)

Download from Newegg $24.99

I guess its time to unistall kav 5, and then buy and reinstall kav 5 from newegg ::)

Wouldn't it be wiser then to save the key from newegg and run KIS under trial until it expires, THEN register with the key? Then you get 13 months, or am I missing something?

pojispear

or trial F-Secure 2006 until KIS 2006 then trial that or buy

I decided to pay a few dollars more and renew through kavs website. I would rather pay a few dollars more and just renew through kav...than to have to uninstall kav and purchase from newegg. Then have to reinstall again.

However this was for a licence renewal. I've already been running kav for a year. If I was a new purchaser ..I would definately go through newegg.
