View Full Version : Easy NOD install questions

I'm ready to download my registered NOD32 (XP/Single User), and after reading the installation guide:

http://www.nod32.com/support/ans/nod32_inst.htm

The easy ;D questions:

1. The guide starts: "Before installing NOD32 Antivirus system, it is recommended that you uninstall another antivirus system you may have on your computer."
Makes sense. BUT -- I've got GAV as on-demand (i.e. no memory resident modules)...QUESTION: do I need thus to uninstall it? I've had reports that it and NOD32 play well together.

2. Followup on #1. Regardless of the answer to #1, GAV will ultimately be on my drive (whether remaining or uninstalled/reinstalled). I'd probably *exclude* it from scans...but I gather the *exclude* function is currently getting fixed. QUESTION: Should this be a problem?

3. The choice one. I'm a big RTFM believer, but I don't always trust all installer instructions as "the only way" (obviously, I'm new to NOD, but not to online/computing). Thus the instructions say:
A. to save downloaded file to desktop (item 12)
B. double clicking and target for all operations default as c:\Program Files\Eset.... Items 19, 23)
What I'd like to do is save to my regular download directory (on another partition), and install in my choice of directory/drive. But I know some security programs can be a little...rigid about this (ZAP) comes to mind. Thus the QUESTION: can I have it "my" way, or am I obliged to have it NOD32's way?

Thanks, all!

P.S. As a newbie here, did I get the URL function right?

Hi Grendel,

Welcome at Wilders. :)
I'll leave the important (and difficult) questions for others. :)

But you need to get the url tags around the url. So [*url] at the start and [*/url] at the end of the link. (without the extra *'s I added)
But the one you posted was recognized without them, so that turned out fine.

Regards,

Pieter

Hi Grendel,

just a few thoughts out of my experience with NOD v2:

Q1: GAV and other on-demand scanner do not have to be removed, as long as nothing stays resident in memory. NOD will simply scan them and won't produce any errors. Sometimes av programs leave drivers (e.g. vxd on win9x systems) etc loaded resident, even if you disable the background scanner. This *might* produce conflicts. If you need help with this, leave your OS and which AV you use.

Please note: If you scan with GAV you may need to disable amon to avoid double-checking all files.

Q2: I guess you won't have to exclude it. NOD will simply scan it.

Q3: As far as I remember the installer allow for selecting custom paths without any problems.

Regards,

Karl
