SnagIt (http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp)
SnagIt is a screen capture utility that allows you to capture, edit and organize any image or screenshot on your Windows PC.
More product information (http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/features.asp)
At present I couldn't find any release notes about it, although you can download the update. :-\

{QUOTE-> SnagIt (http://www.techsmith.com/products/snagit/default.asp) <-QUOTE}For general screen capturing, do you know what advantage this program has over capturing with Print Screen and importing into PhotoShop?
thanks,

Hi rich{QUOTE-> For general screen capturing, do you know what advantage this program has over capturing with Print Screen and importing into PhotoShop? <-QUOTE}It does a lot more then just taking a screen capture.
If I take a screen capture, I can use SnagIt's clipboard afterwards to paste immediately into Paint Shop Pro X. 8)
Have a look at their website or view the online tutorials.
Here's already an overview. ;)

I did look at the web site and I think it has a lot of editing features that I wouldn't normally use. Very impressive, though!!
Thanks for posting that - I'm sending the info to some other people.

{QUOTE-> Thanks Eric for the update-notice ! :) <-QUOTE}My pleasure Jan. ;)
Prettig weekend, Eric :) {QUOTE-> I can do that with Print Screen and paste directly into PhotoShop. <-QUOTE}Yes, Rich, you can do that with the Print Screen, but can you add text, arrows, effects, ... without even using PhotoShop.
In the past I always had to open PSP, but not anymore. 8) {QUOTE-> I did look at the web site and I think it has a lot of editing features that I wouldn't normally use. Very impressive, though!! <-QUOTE}The best way to find out what it can do for you is trying it out IMHO. It certainly has a lot to offer.
{QUOTE-> Thanks for posting that - I'm sending the info to some other people. <-QUOTE}You're welcome, thanks for letting other people know about this little gem. ;)

This answers a question I was going to ask - thanks.
I have so many bookmarks to the various print screen applications to ??? me as to which one would be the best to install.
I searched about yesterday with Hoversnap/faststone screen capture + others - going round in circles.
I knew there was one someone recommended to me ages ago and this name rang lots of bells.
Going to check the details and hope it will stop me wondering & at least have one installed when I need it!
Edit: just noticed I don't think it lets me re-size image which is important but love the add text/arrows.

Anybody got a problem with version 7.2.5 ?
Maybe I did something something wrong....
But below is a screenie (LOL, made with SnagIt 6 ;)) showing an error (sorry, it's in Dutch).
Eric, any idea ?
I still have to look closer at what happened...

To be sure, I'll always like to start with: do I have the right file?
So here is the MD5 checksum:

What I wanted to say: it is the MD5 of the install-file:
The file <D:\SnagIt\Version 7_2_5 upgrade\snagitup.exe> has the following Checksum(s)
MD5 - 8E3DA7EFCE799BC4DA1FC54FEC17B87B

Here is what NIS File Check told me after the upgrade:
{QUOTE->
Application: c:\program files\techsmith\snagit 7\gdiplus.dll
Status: Changed: (Deleted, File not found error)
Version old: 5.1.3102.1360 (xpsp2.040109-18
Size old: 1645320
Date old: 2005-01-11 07:21:00
RMD160 Hash old: 6433CCCD88B76CD38B1349ED2A3DDD74B91D3E46
<-QUOTE}
So, what you see, is that for some reason the following file was removed:
c:\program files\techsmith\snagit 7\gdiplus.dll
At the moment I don't know why.
Maybe my fault, maybe something on my system, maybe cause I run W98SE

Well, nice to have NIS File Check ;)
I had that removed file in my Nero folders.
Example:
{QUOTE->
Application: c:\program files\ahead\nero recode\gdiplus.dll
Status: Unchanged
Version old: 5.1.3102.1360 (xpsp2.040109-18
Size old: 1645320
Date old: 2004-05-04 11:53:40
RMD160 Hash old: 6433CCCD88B76CD38B1349ED2A3DDD74B91D3E46
<-QUOTE}
So I copied it to the SnagIt 7 folder.
And now I was able to open SnagIt 7 :)
As I said above: I don't know why that file gdiplus.dll was removed from my SnagIt 7 folder ???
May I ask others:
1.
Do you have gdiplus.dll in the SnagIt 7 folder ?
2.
What is the version ?
3.
What is the MD5 checksum of your file gdiplus.dll ?
Mine is:
The file <C:\Program Files\TechSmith\SnagIt 7\gdiplus.dll> has the following Checksum(s)
MD5 - 871C903A90C45CA08A9D42803916C3F7
Thanks !
Cheers, Jan.

Hi Jan,
Sorry to hear about your problem. :( {QUOTE-> As I said above: I don't know why that file gdiplus.dll was removed from my SnagIt 7 folder ???
May I ask others:
1. Do you have gdiplus.dll in the SnagIt 7 folder ? <-QUOTE}Couldn't find any gdiplus.dll in that folder, but maybe it's located elsewhere.
Running XP Pro here, so I'm not sure. :-\
I do remember getting an error at my work, when installing my copy 7.2.3 on my Win98 SE computers.
I'm however not sure if it was the same error.
I also remember installing some files into my System32 folder and afterwards SnagIt worked again.
Hope you'll find the reason as to why that file was removed. ;)

Hi Eric,
Thanks for your reply ! :D
Maybe it has indeed something to do with running an older system; I'm not sure at the moment...
There is also a thread at DSLR/BBR-software ( ;) ) :

Hey, I found it back. :D
I downloaded the file here (http://dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?gdiplus) and followed the instructions on this page (http://www.dll-files.com/unzip.php).
Rebooted and SnagIt was back in business. 8)

In which directory did you put it, Eric ?
In the SnagIt 7 or else ?
That might be important to know in case of a future upgrade for SnagIt ...
I have to admit that I myself am a little bit reluctant to download a file from a site; just only wanting to be a bit cautious, you know ;)
Well, files can always be checked at online scanners as Jotti and Virus-Total.
And we all can compare MD5 checksums (those things are important; LOL, it's only me again ;))
