hi all

does anyone here know about graphics cards ??

see I'm looking in to getting a new graphics card but I'm trying to determine which is the best one to get

now after asking around it seems as though the general consensus is that the nvidia 6600 is a good one to go for as it provides good performance with out being to expensive

but being that there are 3 flavours of the 6600 I'm not sure which is the best and which one I should be asking for when I go to the shop so I was wondering if someone could clear this up for me

and give me a lil advice so that I can make an informed decision

When you say "affordable", you have quite a few choices. Yoiu can buy either the NVIDIA GeForce 6600 series graphics chips, or the GeForce 6800LE, or the ATI Radeon X800GT.

The GeForce 6600 series has 3 variants - 6600 "vanilla", 6600LE (Lite Edition), and 6600GT. The 6600GT is the best out of these - dont bother about buying the other two variants.

I personally recommend that you get a 6800LE. The 6600GT is not bad either. The Radeon X800GT is new in the market, but its general acceptancy is not as wide as the 6600s.

Happy Gaming! ;)

By the way, does your system have an AGP slot or do you want a PCI-Express based graphics card?

Hi Firecat

thanks for your response it would seem that your comments are typical of though that I've gotten off other people to whom iv asked this question

so it looks like if I can get the cash it will either be the 6600 gt or the 6800 gt that I go for as I know nvidia to be a company that makes quality parts

as to your question

I'm not really sure as i'm kind of new to this hardware stuff

its the smaller white ports that are PCI-Express and the larger brown port that's AGP isn't it ? if that's the case then my current card is a PCI-Express card as its plugged in to the smaller white port

Yes, yours is PCI Express. I still think a GeForce 6800LE would be best. :)
