Here it says it´s up to date... 1.1.266...

I'm a little bit irritated. From what kind of updates are you guys talking about ? I 've got the last one on 26 'th of October. And now it says 1.266.

The only clue I have about this update is that it contains huge improvements for variant detection. That obviously means that there were a lot of behind-the-scenes generic signatures added, which are not displayed in the update descriptions.

Such large update occurs once per 2-3 months, that's normal.

Maybe you would prefer to download each day the whole database ?

For me, it is better to have only the new added things ... it is how the incremential updates work. less network utilisation, less update servers problems , ...

Big updates like this one are only necessary few times a year, so why do you want more ?

Asking this for a friend who is using the trial version of NOD32. I was over at his house last nite and his version of NOD32 indicates that there are no updates and the program is set for auto updates. It shows that he has 1.126 20051025 definitions. He tried doing forced check and it indicates that his program is up to date. Logfile only shows a connection problem with the automatic update attempt but nothing for the forced check.

Well i kinda don't like the word "junk". More a "riskware" than "junk".
They add all sorts of things in the database that could pose a possible security risk. You can disable that by unchecking Riskware bases...

Other AV's update their databases etc. too. What's all the fuss with this update? I am more concerned when ESET does not update their signatures daily.

I haven't been infected, app seems just as efficient as always. Why should they? How do you benefit from that? Because you say so even though you don't understand what's involved? Use your noggin', they still update daily, except on weekends unless there is a major outbreak.

KAV adds a lot of things to its DB that might not be relevant to your setup, like... DOS viruses. Don't turn this into a KAV/NOD update discussion, it's been done before, use the search.
