View Full Version : 5,000 members - free software licenses!

Paul Wilders
June 16th, 2003, 04:20 AM
Dear registered members,

We are rapidly heading towards 5,000 registered members - this board is growing fast indeed!

5,000 registered members is kind of a milestone, and we want to celebrate this upcoming event.

Thus, we are giving away free licenses for top notch security software as soon as member number 5,001 has signed up. Those who sign up ultimately two days after we've welcomed member number 5,001 will participate in this randomly chosen "give away" as well.

Courtesy - and big thanks to software developpers providing us with this possibility, we will provide free software licenses (no doubles!):

courtesy to DCS (http://www.diamondcs.com.au):

2 licences for TDS3 (http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/) 3 licenses for Port Explorer (http://www.diamondcs.com.au/portexplorer/)

courtesy to Look'n'Stop (http://www.looknstop.com):

10 licenses for Look'n'Stop (http://www.looknstop.com/En/index2.htm)

courtesy to Eset (http://www.nod32.com):

50 single user licenses for
NOD32 v2 (http://www.nod32.com)

courtesy to our highly valued moderator Jack:

1 Msoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-details.asp?sku=M17-1800)

The randomly chosen winners will be contacted by email, and they will have to provide a non web based email address. In case we do not receive an answer to our email within a week, or our email bounces, we will pick at random another winner instead. Please take notice it might take us approx. a week to verify facts.

For the record: we will verify one winner will win only one available license. Finally: our team members (moderators and administrators) are excluded from taking part.

Our decisions are final, and not open for discussion in any way.

Our goal has been and will be providing support and help the best we can. We do value our members, their input and helping one another out in a friendly atmosphere highly as well - this is our way of saying "thank you all, for participating on this board, helping out, posting news, providing useful info in a friendly way".

Feel free to spread the word!

On behalf of our team,

paul

:D i wonder how there going to do it

i guess it be posiable to simply dowenload all the usser names in a small sorting utlity and let it pick randomely

that would be cool

but if not i feel sorry for the person that has to do the 5000 or so names by hand lol

Blaze,

We had a secret "pre-vote" and decided you were JUST the person to write out the names of each of the 5000 members on itty-bitty ballots. Make sure they're itty-bitty or you will have to start ALL over again.

July 1st, 2003, 04:16 AM
What would one user do with 65 licenses anyway?
No, this competition is for all except for the mods (we are some short in mods, but they wait with joining till this race for the 5000 members is won ;) ) and i guess people who already have all the goodies might volunteer to be out of the contest.
Expect it to be won second half of July or maybe sooner.

Jooske
July 14th, 2003, 01:33 AM
Not any reason to hold back with joining! The 5000th member will NOT receive 65 licences but will open the key to start the fiesta for all members who were here longer anyway to take part in this grand contest!
I do hope for the 5000th (s)he will be one of the lucky winners, of course.

So don't hold back joining, 7 more to go right this moment, come in and start the party!

Think it would be nicer to use numbers and after getting them check if they are valid (no mod, no admin, no double name, no .. whatever) and them see which person belongs to it. But i'm sure the admins know their ways!
Expecting an announcement and 66 happy messages of winners!

wheeee better check my profile and be sure I check whichever email addy I used.. in fact I'll change it to my private addy cause it's hidden anyway and I'd trust Paul with.. with... well I'd trust him hehehe.

edit - hehe already used my private addy guess I trusted from the beginning :-)

LowWaterMark
July 15th, 2003, 03:49 PM
Of course, I'm not eligible for this contest, but even if the odds were 1 out of 2, I wouldn't win. ;)

Let's see there are 66 prizes and 5000 members. That's a 1 in 75 chance at winning something. Actually, it's better than that since there are team members who aren't eligible, duplicate accounts and also some dead or inactive accounts (email invalid and the person isn't active).

Detox - be careful with your keyboard. It'd be a pity to win a nice software package and then have to spend money buying a new keyboard. ;)

notageek
July 15th, 2003, 03:53 PM
If you win do you have a pick out of the prizes?

Detox
July 15th, 2003, 04:04 PM
sounds to me like they go through each prize and randomly select a user to win that prize one by one... that's my guess...

Anyway I'm barf-prone so my stuff is mostly barf-proof :-)

It's a slight chance of winning but it's a chance and it's 66 prizes that nobody HAD to give out, so I appreciate it all no matter what... and I never win stuff anyway lol...

For those willing to stay into the race: better update your email account in your profile - make sure to enable to hide your addy from the public . 15 free licenses are available once more.

Randomly chosen 15 new contenders will be emailed within 12 hours ;)

Beetlejuice - non-web based means basically a real email account... like no "hotmail" -that's web based - you check it from a website. Otherwise someone could register lots of different names with different hotmail (or some such) account etc...

Just wanted to let you know, changed email address, after a long association with my ISP, we have come to a parting of the ways LOL.

I RESENT my "acceptance" reply to your email and have changed it in my profile, but just to make sure, posting here I have done so.

Good question from Pretender. I'm also on AOL and don't trust Outlook for security reasons. For that reason I've never set up a seperate e-mail. Thought it would be safer going through Aol exclusively. I may be messing up but I'd like this to be my reply to the e-mail I received saying that I have been chosen as a winner. If this is OK-fine. If not, then that's fine too.
My e-mail is removed.

The PE license as provided by DCS is a personal one. Therefore, the question in regard to trading licenses is obsolete. On the other hand you could ask DCS to provide a license for a different person as a gift for example. This is something between you and the software developper.

For the record: licenses won are strictly personal; no disclosure or trading allowed, other than with consent from the software developper in question.

Thanks to Wilders for the free license for NOD32.
I really appreciate it.

I have two questions.

1.) Is it possible to keep the antivirus that I now use, which is the free version of AVG, installed on my PC alongside the Nod app? Or is it not necessary or not wise?

2.) I purchased a license for Outlook firewall version 2. As of yet it is incompatible with WindowsME. I have been thinking of switching to Look 'n Stop. Is this a good choice?

Thanks for any responses and thanks again very much for the prize.

A non-web mail based address means ones like Yahoo and Hotmail aren't allowed. If you use AOL for your internet service that is allowed. So basically it means you need a 'real' mail address which is either your own domain (like mine), or your ISP.

Well done! :)

I have three antivirus installed, and no complications. The trick is only one should be set as your active program, I suggest NOD32 for that, and stop AVG from running so it is only "on demand" as a second opinion.

Since it is AVG I don't see why there should be a problem, it's pretty friendly with others. Just two points to remember: 1. AVG placed a boot sector scan line into your autoexec file (or your equivalent) so that needs commenting out, and 2. do remember to deactivate it as your email scanner.

The other I'm leaving as I only just got a free license for LnS so am starting to learn it now, but I'm hoping it can replace ZA Pro which is pretty heavy on this old system. :)

if the message is authentic, THANK YOU very much Wilders. But i am already a licensed TDS3 operator and just renewed my NOD32 license. I wish i would win some other software.

I got this e-mail on Aug 12:

Hello minacross,

As announced in our mailing from June 16th 2003, we are
giving away free licenses for top notch security software
as soon as our Security Support Board has welcomed the
5,000 registered member:

http://www.wilderssecurity.com/index.php?board=11, see
the "5000 members -free software licenses!" thread.

We have passed that milestone in the meanwhile - and
you are one of the randomly chosen lucky winners!

In order to make sure you'll receive a free license from
a randomly chosen software, these are the conditions:

- reply to this email within 1 week from now, using a
non web based email account;

- Mention your registered user name as well as your
real name;

- in case you've registered using a web based email

result of all these problems: I didn't look at my computer for about a day <=this was the day that NOD wasn't used :'(

Funny, I needed to renew my Anti-Virus and had not done so as I was thinking about a getting a different program. Now the decision was made for me as I have been given the NOD to go ahead and install NOD32 V2 if I so choose and of course I have done so.

Don't really know much about NOD32 but I am going to find out! Anyway the wonderful gift has been put to good use. Thanks

Hi mattfman
Welcome and thanks for registering as a member!
with the current growth we might expect there will be more future drawings, so hang on, enjoy the forums, follow the links to free software and other advices, and you might be among the winners in a next occasion.
In the meantime new software is created, so who knows what you might be running for?
All to keep your system secured and a joy using it!

Dear members,

All free licenses have been distributed in the meanwhile.

For some akward and unknown reason, many members have been rejected the Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop Pro (http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=10348;start=0), generously provided by our valued moderator JacK.

It seems a pitty not to make someone happy with this very nice item.

Therefore, we change the rules a bit in this specific case:

Every registered member (except those who did already win a license) is invited to drop me an email: webmaster@wilders.org in case s/he is interested in getting this item for free. Subject line: Desktop Pro. Contents: "I'm interested!"

The winner will be chosen at random from the first 100 registered members who dropped me an email.

Imagine what could happen with the 25000 members -- maybe Bill Gates could come over to win a free copy of his Longhorn if he would put some licenses in the contest?
Just joking, but we could with this top notch multi-lingual supported security forum at least have grabbed his attention while helping so many people with their systems!

Let's calculate, with the current new members/day rate we'll be on 10000 around half march 2004, so that could be in 3 years on 25000 hmm think people would rather like the next generation after Longhorn by then :)
But help us reminding you to send that email, if BG would be in the contest and it would be announced we could be on 25000 before next christmas this year.

Ok Detox. Uhhumm---

I'm sorry, so sorry,
That you can't win anything now.
Bet it makes you feel,
Like you're having a cow.
Oh, Oh. Oh. Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh yeah.

You just now realized,
That you can never win a prize.
So you'll have to dream,
Just sit back and close your eyes.

Since I'm a Moderator,
I can't get no sleep.
I go to bed even later,
And I hate counting sheep.
Sheep being chased by wolves,
That really scares me.
I feel their running hoofs,
As they trample on me.

I'm sorry, So sorry,
There is no need to cry.
For in your dreams you'll see,
Cookies in your eyes.
Oh. Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, yeah.

Wolves like cookies, sheep do to,
Feed them and maybe they, won't trample on you.
Now it's time for bed,
Seeing that it's almost 2.

Since I'm a Moderator,
I can't get no sleep.
The wolves are now chasing me,
Instead of the sheep.
I fed them my cookies,
Used up my supply.
Now the wolves look at me,
Like I'm a french fry.

I'm sorry, so sorry,
But I must leave now really fast.
The wolves want a meal and,
I don't want to be their last.
Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, Oh, No!

I fed them the cookies, the wolves and the sheep,
I thought then I might, catch some more sleep.
The wolves eyes are red,
And I've got cookies in my bed.

Since I'm a Moderator,
I can't get no sleep.
I'm tired of feeding,
The wolves and the sheep.
I gave them my cookies,
For something to eat.
Now the wolves look at me,
Like I'm their next meat.

I'm sorry, so sorry,
Please help me to get some sleep.
For just a few cookies,
I'll give you my wolves and sheep.

Just remember to feed them!!! ;D ;) Oh, and don't forget to feed Detox to!! ;D ;D

And we'll have a mess to clean. :'(
