Ice Sword?

Does anybody have a copy of Ice Sword I could access?
I seem to have a lot of trouble getting the d/l to finish and unless I am mistaken it is a .rar file and I dont want to get Winrar unless I have to.
Or, is there another decompression utility for these files?

I already unrared it. I will rename the exe to TXT for mailing and you will just have to rename it back again.

I think I am for the most part trusted here DA.

After all I am a proud registerd poster since before there were even a thound members. It was such a huge jump when another thousand was reached, the forum would give away software. I have always been out there telling people to visit Wilders with thier problems and for learning computer security. I do post a few times a year over at DSLreports but that's about it. AND I do not agree with the posts that come thru here about people going to DSL because the posters there are more intelligent ;)
I guess I could include a MD5 to make sure it was not altered, right? I do have the technolog to include that.

But I guess if making an honest offer is going to cause another flareup by an unregisterd poster, well then I withdraw my offer.

controler just a little joke. No "flareup" intended. As you know, its dangerous to get stuff except from the source (and sometimes not even that), you never know what you will get by just asking for files to be sent to you.

I'm guessing you both know that, but a little warning to our less knowledgable readers might be worth while.

If you have a Unzipper it will usually open RAR - otherwise consider
the free and beaut. 'IZArc' - it does.

I could not hold the 'Ice Sword' line long enough to D\L it - but using
the free and beaut. 'Download Express' - no trouble at all.

For any noobs (such as myself) lurking around this forum I'd just like to say: be very very careful using Ice Sword. I tried to run it, got an error message stating that it could not start, checked in Task Manager and found that it was in fact running. I used every tool in the box in an effort to terminate it (I even tried waiting!) but it would not stop, so eventually I rebooted and that was that. Only services would load, no programs. I could not boot into safe mode. Nothing. Ice Sword had apparently erased a system file (<windows root>\system32\hal.dll). Eventually I had to reformat and had a fun few days putting everything back together. Actually, on reflection I don't think this happened because I'm a noob, this could happen to anyone, so watch out.

Same thing here. After running this tool, rebooting my XP box displayed the CHKDSK screen, and several errors were found on the NTFS (system) drive. CHKDSK could not resolve the problems, so that each reboot was again diplaying CHKDSK screen. When skipping CHKDSK, the system could boot, but with corrupted/missing registry files (were replaced by XP from a backup).
Avoid this tool ...

I don't know what did happen for you two, but did run it yesterday without troubles ??? .

Longboard, I wish there was a user guide too; I did run the "reboot and monitor feature", and then the "bell" button: it does show some kernel API hooking in red, among other entries in black: I guess it's that (not sure yet).

Here we have some people putting out some rootkit detectors but we still don't really know why do we?
Has anybody found documentation on these new detectors?
When writing the authors , we get less then professional responces.

What am I missing here?

I guess untill I see the authors posting at some of the well known sites, I would say stay clear of them for now. Johanna's included.

for sure the author does look very secretive; he does ask for feedback if you happen to find a bug (see the pic), but I've read somewhere that he doesn't speak english: could somehow explain that ???

btw I did put the whole GUI in the pic, so that people who didn't test it can see how it does look like :)

it might be sina.com's problem. From my experience , there are many problems regarding to emails between china and other countries. For example, many foreign severs are banned by chinese email providers due to the spam mail issue. Hotmail and other service providers do the same thing to emails from china. I cannot say it always happen. But it does happen very often. So the best way to avoid it for who keep connection with his chinese friend by emails is to get service from the same providers.

Define "well known" sites . I have seen the author of Icesword posting in some boards. Don't ask me where, since they no doubt would be against the TOS here to mention them.

I think the article I read said the Chinese government blocked alot of ISPs.
It probably goes both ways.

I can read a chinese newspaper well enough. But It's tough translating technical terms. Makes it worse given that i'm no hacker. Took me ages before I realised "Mu ma" literally translated as "wooden horse" meant trojan horse. LOL. Nah just joking, my chinese isn't that bad.

Since I have been a registered member here, many good programmers have shown here. Are you saying you think Wilders is not any kind of huge voice in the security world? Guess I am not sure what you are saying.
