Add-ons for Opera ?

Are there any ??

I'm new to this browser and was wondering if you can download for example toolbars that prevents you going to a phishing site...something like the "netcraft toolbar"...or anything else to make Opera safer ?

I admit to feeling a bit naked surfin'. Not too many security settings to tinker with.
And in the status bar, when surfing I can see those infamous bad, bad ad-sites. >:(

Afraid they get on my puter !! :o Do they ?
I have no idea...:( ???



P.S. Cookie settings are just plainly a pain.

You are correct with that statement. Once you get the cookie thing figured out on Opera, they work brilliantly, but they should not make them so hard to figure out, after all, they want more folks to use Opera, don't they, so why make some aspects of it so hard to use ???

Yea....but maybe complaining (nicely of course ;) ) on their forum may help them know to make it easier for us....if most users haven't complaint all yet ! :D

The Opera Ad Filter is nice. Altho it is not as good as Adblock for FF sadly. :'(

I keep it updated and it works fine here, best part unlike Ad Muncher etc. it doesnt implement any proxy, just a config file edit.

There are add-ons for Opera, though not on the scale of Firefox's extensions, see Custom Buttons to Drag'n'Drop into your Opera (http://nontroppo.org/wiki/CustomButtons) for some useful stuff.

However the best protection comes from web filtering proxy software - WebWasher Classic (http://www.cyberguard.com/products/webwasher/webwasher_products/classic/) is a fairly simple one to start with. These are able to remove specifc items within webpages (like popup windows and animations) while OperaAdFilter is, unless I'm mistaken, limited to filtering all content from specific sites.

These are a little more complex to use in that they are a separate program that you need to start before your browser and you need to configure your browser to use them (via Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Network/Proxy Servers in Opera's case - check the HTTP box, specify 127.0.0.1 as the address beside it and the appropriate port number, typically 8080 but see the proxy documentation for details, in the Port box). Since the proxy will be accessing the websites rather than your browser from this point, you will need to allow it network access with your favourite firewall.

A more powerful filter is Proxomitron (www.proxomitron.info) which I use. You can create your own filters and rewrite web pages to suit you with this, though doing so is quite complex. However if the list of default Web (http://www.proxomitron.info/45/help/Default%20Web%20Filters.html) and Header (http://www.proxomitron.info/45/help/Default%20Header%20Filters.html) filters makes sense to you, then consider giving it a shot instead!

Edit: Forgot to mention BFilter (http://bfilter.sourceforge.net/) - this is very simple to use (almost no configuration needed) but very powerful (it can even make Yahoo usable...almost).

It prevents popups, ads, bad websites, bugs on pages, etc...

Everything you suggested sounds good. I'm using the Opera Ad Filter for now, it seems alright.
Though I'm not too comfortable tinkering with proxy programs. :-\
