ACPI UNABLE TO LOCATE RSDP

Can anyone tell me what this error means? It occurs when I boot off the rescue disk (the error appears on the Acronis 8.0 screen). I am able to restore a partition image, but Win XP still will not start, so I'm wondering if the RSDP error has something to do with it. Cannot load the latest True Image revision until XP is up. (It does require Windows to load right?).

The image is known to be good since it was used to create a cloned machine, which works fine. I haven't booted to the XP partition for some weeks (normally boots to OS/2), so I don't know what might have happened (no hardware changes).

As for the problem with the error message that appears when you are trying to boot from Bootable Rescue CD. First of all, please make sure that you use the latest build of Acronis True Image (937 for version 8.0 and 2277 for version 9.0) which is available at: http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/support/updates/

To get access to updates you should create an account at:
http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/my/
then log in and use your serial number to register your software.

Please create new Bootable Rescue CD after installing the update (you can create it on any other "healthy" PC), boot your PC having the issue from this CD and see if the problem still persists.

I would also recommend you to try the "acpi=off noapic" workaround as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

If the problem still persists then please create Linux system information (sysinfo.txt) as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

If you will not be able to create a sysinfo.txt file for some reasons then please boot from the Acronis True Image 8.0 rescue disc once more and press F11 key when the "Starting Acronis Loader..." message appears.

After you get the "Linux Kernel Settings" prompt, please remove the "quiet" word, click on the OK button. As the startup messages stop scrolling please write down the last few lines of the output, or use a digital camera to make shots of the output screens.

Please also create Acronis Report in the way described below:

- Download Acronis Report Utility and run it only "healthy" PC;
- Select the "Create Bootable Floppy" option;
- Insert a blank floppy disk in the A: drive and proceed with creation of the bootable floppy;
- Boot the computer having the issue from this diskette and wait for report creation process to finish;
- Collect the report file from the floppy.

Please also describe when exactly you receive that "ACPI UNABLE TO LOCATE RSDP" error message.

Send all the collected files and information to support@acronis.com along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

What concerns the problem with the restored system partition that refuses to boot. Please do the following (depending of the operating system you use):

- Boot the computer from Windows 95/98/ME Startup Disk and run "fdisk /mbr" command;

- Boot the computer from Windows 2000/XP Installation CD and run "fixmbr" command in Recovery Console.

If that does not help then please create Acronis Report in the way described above (using bootable diskette) and send it to support@acronis.com along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

This error appeared when the Acronis name was in the top left of the screen and below it says "Loading, please wait" (or something to that effect).

The error went away when I used a rescue disk that was created from the updated TI version on another PC.

However the Windows problem persisted and the fixmbr command only succeeded in disabling the multi partition boot ability. After a long session of multiple image restores (new and old), partition deletions, disk formatting, chkdsk /f, and anything else I could think of, I finally took a look at the BIOS settings. There is a setting under Power Mangement called "ACPI BIOS mode" which was 'disabled'. After setting it to 'enable' (and restoring the latest image), XP booted just fine. Setting it back to 'disable' once again kills XP, but it boots again (without requiring image restoration) when set back to 'enable'. I probably disabled this some time ago for an OS/2 issue and it caused no problem with that OS.
