I own both McAfee SpamKiller and MailWasher Pro, but I can't use McAfee SpamKiller because it takes FOREVER to filter some emails I get with websites attached (I need these emails for my business). So I only use Mail Washer.. If you have any comments on SpamKiller, I'd like to hear..

I use K9 when things are normal. When things get nasty, I use Mailwasher Pro.

been using mailwasher 'till it went PRO.
now I use a simple notifier PopPeeper (pop/hotmail/yahoo) to read/select my mail.
my provider checks my popmail for spam (free of charge), at first I had my doubts about it but I'm using it now.

when things got nasty I used Spamkiller 'coz of its rule-updates. I don't have to change many of them because 99% of spammail is in english and my language is Dutch ;D Spamkiller is definitely my favorit!!!

Mailwasher, SpamCop, I also HATE SPAM ;D

I voted other, because I delete all my mail that comes in on Hotmail with one easy push on a button.
What comes through on the addy's I really use is mostly flagged as spam by my e-mail client.
It is not that much that I need a special spam-filter and am keeping my fingers crossed it stays that way.

But to add a program to the ones mentioned, I trialled MailBox Guard (http://pjwalczak.com/mbguard/index.php) and thought that worked pretty good.

Regards,

Pieter

I just use the old mailwasher 1.32....

I think it's real easy to use b/c hitting the "blacklist" button for anything I know is spam that mailwasher didnt catch adds it to the list... I haven't messed with the rules/filters - whatever you call them but the faked "nobody home" response really seems to work.. I get very little spam except at times when someone else lets my addy out somewhere.

Hi!

I've been using Pop Peeper e-mail checker for 5 months and it worked ok with MSN and Outlook Express. It's simple to use, it's free, and has updates too. It doesn't prevent spam mails though, you have to delete them from Pop Peeper before opening your mail box. Uguel

Using Mailwasher here along with Advent Browser.

One thing I have noticed lately is the spam servers are now using

Yahoo, Lycos, excite ect for mail extentions, which the normal
hotmail ect won't filter unless you chose each one. You don't dare
use the option to delete all mail ending with those extentions.
In their subject ine they are using : hardware problem?
You forgot to reply, DO you remember me? just more things to try to trick you into opening the mail.

I also use MailWasher pro to delete spaml from the server (I remove mail from the server after 7 days)

Er. Bouncing spam mails is known to be a dumb thing to do. Because

1) replyto headers are faked, often to innocent emails
2) Even if they were not do you think spammers care whether a bounce comes and do you think they faithfully remove it?
3) If they *do* care they certainty can tell the different between a fake bounce generated from the client and that coming from the mail server.

Looks to be in beta. That said, there are lot of excellent spam filters out there that can yield 99% accuracy rates out there. mostly due to bayeisan filtering.

One little example SpamPal is capable to:

DNSBLs (public blacklists) you can activate in Spampal:

You use any other plugins with spampal, or just the open relay black lists? I'm curious what accuracy do you get just with black lists.

bellgamin,
[I use K9 when things are normal. When things get nasty, I use Mailwasher Pro.]

Would you explain why? I am using Frontgate, and did use Mailwasher free, but MW did not permit but one account. I deleted it.
Frontgate doesn’t seem to have a very good memory.

I notice that K9 and Popfile seem to be well thought of, and am looking for something to choose between them or to find another filter. I am not very sharp, and it needs to have a simple learning curve for me.

Anyone else is welcome to help here.

Thanks,
Jerry

Hi JayK!

Shame on me for my very very very late answer, please forgive me....

A couple of months I was not "on air" for many personal reasons, had no time at all to be at the Wilders Family, was here every week only for a few seconds and that was all!

Till last week I was using SpamPal with just the open relay black lists, the accuracy was o.k. to me, but since last week I don´t use/need SpamPal anymore.

The reason: I have now Outlook 2003 with integrated spam-handling, and I must say: it works great!

Perfect spam-handling, and that for a product coming from our friend Uncle Bill.....

Best regards,

Smokey

Mail Box Dispatcher. What I like about it is that, before downloading mail it checks and brings back a list of what is waiting for me. I can then have it delete - at the server - anything that isn't on my spam list already and that I don't want getting into my computer. There are other far more sophisticated programs but I find this one fast, easy on resources, and adequate to my modest needs.

Details from:

http://www.webattack.com/get/mailboxdis.html

Mail Box Dispatcher - manage email on the server

Mail Box Dispatcher allows you control incoming email messages on server side, before downloading them to your email program. It acts as a simple, hands-on spam filter and allows you to specify criteria (from, subject, text etc.) to select unwanted messages and then delete them. The program can also download a specified number of lines, allowing you to quickly preview part or all of the message. The optional auto-selection feature lets you pre-mark certain messages for deletion, so all you have to do is click a button to remove them from the server. None of your email is deleted automatically, so it is safe to use without risking to lose an important message.
